10-23-2010: Emma Stone & Kings of Leon

Stick Figure Night Live! is a series of stick figure comic “recreations” of episodes of Saturday Night Live. Just as the show itself is performed live, the comics are drawn “live” while watching the show (with the occasional assist from DVR or some digital clean-up post scanning).

I’m gonna try to add some “making of” type commentary for those interested in that sort of thing.

Before I watched this episode I thought of an idea for a sketch I thought might be fun to see: the 10 or 20 year high school reunion for the characters in Superbad. I imagined everyone playing older versions of those characters and how they ended up…even perhaps having Bill Hader reprise his role as the cop he played in the film, etc. I had that in mind when I made the “wasted” comment in the monologue panel.

The “WXPD Channel 9 News” sketch was tricky, as it had a lot of scene changes back and forth, which made it harder to condense into a single panel. This was the first time since I started these where I scrapped my first go and flipped the paper over and re-did it on the back of the paper (thanks to Photoshop I pieced it together to flow ever so seamlessly).

“Les Jeunes de Paris” was another tricky one, because it was both in French and mostly physical. When I saw the following day that that one sketch wasn’t available on Hulu it struck me that outside of a bootleg version on YouTube, this might be the only visual representation of that sketch out there…which is ridiculous.
