10-30-2010: John Hamm & Rihanna

Stick Figure Night Live! is a series of stick figure comic “recreations” of episodes of Saturday Night Live. Just as the show itself is performed live, the comics are drawn “live” while watching the show (with the occasional assist from DVR or some digital clean-up post scanning).

Not gonna lie, this was a tough one, which I think might be clear from my potential overuse of the “character just describes their ‘schtick'” approach in a lot of the panels above. I’m not sure if that’s a result of my laziness/lack of imagination or uninspired/uninspiring sketches.

The nature of how I create these makes things like the “Back to the Future Screen Tests” tricky. In hindsight I might’ve given more attention to the actual premises behind the impressions rather than just list them off. I blame time and space (as in real estate on the page, not the cosmic ideal).

I’m pretty pleased with the “Darlique and Barney” panel, for what that’s worth.

I’m almost 100% sure I’ve seen “Dog in Purse” online elsewhere some time ago, but with older celebrity references, so mentally I was distracted by those thoughts for that one. That might explain the barely more involved than a stick figure drawing and the lack of any writing effort.

And finally, that first Rihanna performance took three tries to get the pose “just right”. Here are first two failed attempts:
