01-08-2011: Jim Carrey & The Black Keys

Stick Figure Night Live! is a series of stick figure comic “recreations” of episodes of Saturday Night Live. Just as the show itself is performed live, the comics are drawn “live” while watching the show (with the occasional assist from DVR or some digital clean-up post scanning).

Happy new year, everyone. Can’t argue with Jim Carrey’s monologue that 2010 was a less than stellar year, so indeed, onward and upward and positive thinking and all that stuff.

As for this weeks show/installment…it was kind of nice seeing Jim Carrey on TV; he’s an entertaining fella…but it’s an interesting challenge to try and capture or communicate some of the physicality in stick figure form. I think I did a better job with the “Black Swan” sketch than the “Merryville Brothers”.

Also, I definitely got rusty over the break as I had to pause more than usual…and had to rewind the musical guests because in the first instance I was still working on the panel for the sketch before…and in the second I realized there wasn’t a chorus proper to quote, hence the approach above.

And it really was a pretty good Alan Thicke…and it’s true, nobody does a Thicke.

(also, I’ve been working on some RSS feed stuff, so if as a result you’ve lost the feed or something went screwy with your subscription, please just resubscribe via the link on the left side of the page, up there under “links”. Thanks)
