12/17/2011: Jimmy Fallon & Michael Bublé

Stick Figure Night Live! is a series of stick figure comic “recreations” of episodes of Saturday Night Live. Just as the show itself is performed live, the comics are drawn “live” while watching the show (with the occasional assist from DVR or some digital clean-up post scanning).

It was inevitable there’d be a “walking backstage” monologue at some point…I think/hope I navigated the drawing of that reasonably well using the old “Family Circus” dotted line method.

The Bublé duets sketch was another impression-a-thon which, honestly, I don’t know a genuinely good way to do those yet. Somehow the Regis-replacement auditions worked. Maybe it’s an impression vs. a song parody?

I do like that silly Christmas song…and I’m not even on the Christmas team.

So you might notice that first musical guest panel’s got a lot of space between the lyrics and the doodle of Bublé. That’s because I thought it might be a medley (and I knew Weekend Update was coming next and I like to give that space), hence the tall panel and the words packed in up top. When I realized he was only doing the one song, well, that’s where the long tail on that balloon comes into play.

The Weekend Update Joke-Off was fun…and surprisingly easier to break down as drawings. Not for nothing.

My sketch doesn’t do the Beethoven sketch justice, but the premise was quite good and I think/hope I got that across.

That’s it for 2011. Happy Holidays and see you next year.

PS – speaking of the holidays, for the past bunch of years I’ve been creating holiday cards with a…different take on the holidays. this is this year’s:

Past years’ cards are all right here.
