12/03/2011: Steve Buscemi & The Black Keys

Stick Figure Night Live! is a series of stick figure comic “recreations” of episodes of Saturday Night Live. Just as the show itself is performed live, the comics are drawn “live” while watching the show (with the occasional assist from DVR or some digital clean-up post scanning).

I’m gonna say it: I’m pretty pleased with the stick-figuring on this one. I’m always trying to figure out what works better in encapsulating the varied sketches and I think in this instance things worked pretty well.

Lotta long hair wigs on the dudes in this episode, eh?

And Fred Armisen’s not even doing the Obama cadence anymore? Then again, that’d have made for an extra long cold open.

Interesting how the monologue mentions Buscemi’s penchant for playing creepy only to have him play creepy in the next bunch of sketches.

Nice to see Sex Ed Vincent back.

And “Frozen Mexican Dinner” and “Drunk Uncle” felt like throw-back/old school SNL.

Weird that Kristen Wiig would retire characters like Penelope and Gilli, but the woman who goes ape about surprises is still in the rotation. I still don’t understand why “Two A-Holes” went bye-bye. If anyone knows, please chime in in the comments.

And here’s the hazard of doing this while I’m watching: I’m sure I’d have enjoyed the ornaments sketch more if I wasn’t writing things down while watching it. These are the sacrifices I make!

Katy Perry* next week…perhaps I’ll rename the site Curvy Figure Night Live…

*(though not double-timing as musical guest? okay…I guess – I’m just crossing my fingers we don’t see Russell Brand show up)
