02/11/2012: Zooey Deschanel & Karmin

Stick Figure Night Live! is a series of stick figure comic “recreations” of episodes of Saturday Night Live. Just as the show itself is performed live, the comics are drawn “live” while watching the show (with the occasional assist from DVR or some digital clean-up post scanning).

Apologies for the typo – though in this instance, as it’s handwriting, it’s just a misspelling, right? – for Jean Dujardin, whose name I butchered in that last “Good Nights” panel.

It was funny, as the “Daily Post, 1941” sketch started, I thought, “oh boy, if they’re gonna talk this fast for the whole sketch, I”m gonna have to figure out a workaround. To have Zooey Deschanel’s character address exactly that got it. And I’m sorry I didn’t doodle in Bobby Moynihan’s frantic typing take; it was pretty great.

I think my first pass at doodling Clint Eastwood was the best…but I didn’t want to just digitally copy/paste (though I thought about it).

Taran Killam’s Michael Cera is terrific.

And Karmin…this made me laugh, from a link I came across to gawker.com:

What’s wrong with her face?
Experts tell me that Heidemann suffers from a tragic syndrome known as “theater kid” that manifests itself as extreme and frequent facial and gestural tics. There is no known cure. (See also: Anne Hathaway, Katy Perry, Neil Patrick Harris.)

Hard to deny her enthusiasm for performance…made for some fun stick figure drawing (it’s a nice break to draw figures in motion is all).

Next week we’ve got Maya Rudolph hosting. Maya Rudolph’s great. And yes, I have already thought about how I might approach a “Prince Show” or a “Nuni & Nuni” sketch…
