Stick Figure Night Live! is a series of stick figure comic “recreations” of episodes of Saturday Night Live. Just as the show itself is performed live, the comics are drawn “live” while watching the show (with the occasional assist from DVR or some digital clean-up post scanning).
It’s a clear indicator of what I’ve become as a SNL-watcher, but it still takes me out of the show when past cast members or hosts pop in…if only because it seems to happen SO much more frequently than it did in the past. And with such a large cast it’s got to annoy folks whose sketches DON’T make it on. And amidst all that there was still a guy I assume was maybe a writer in the cold open as one of the Romney sons.
There was no way I could do proper justice to the “Real Housewives of Disney” sketch/video. I went instead for covering as much ground as I could rather than pulling a scene or attempting a montage or something. But it was full of good stuff, possibly even worth checking out on hulu or nbc.com.
Couldn’t understand a word Jack White sang in his second performance, but the song sounded pretty cool. Alas, no sound in comics, but his hairdo was certainly fun to doodle.
When Weekend Update ended before the one hour mark I wondered if we’d be getting an extra musical performance or maybe more sketches…but it looked like we got some repeat commercial parodies, which was great for letting me catch up with the show, drawing-wise (as opposed to hitting pause), but between you and me, becomes a bit time consuming when I have to go back and find the original drawings and slot them in.
But it all works out in the end, right? I mean, if I didn’t say anything who would know, really?
Jonah Hill’s up next. Will Taran Killam’s Brad Pitt appear during the monologue, a sketch, or…gulp, not at all?
