Stick Figure Night Live! is a series of stick figure comic “recreations” of episodes of Saturday Night Live. Just as the show itself is performed live, the comics are drawn “live” while watching the show (with the occasional assist from DVR or some digital clean-up post scanning).
So it was inevitable that we’d see “The Miley Cyrus Show” on this week’s episode and I must say I’m impressed that it happened as late as it did in the show…I figured it’d come right after the monologue.
And with this episode we’re back to a whole lot of singing in sketches. I need to learn some new musical notes to draw…
I had very little exposure to Miley Cyrus beyond still images in tablid magazines at the gym, so seeing her perform was new, and I can say Vanessa Bayer’s take is pretty great.
Strange to see “Les Jeunes de Paris” return, and sadly, minus much of it’s quirk and charm from it’s original outing. I don’t know if maybe Miley lacked the charm to pull it off or that in general, once it’s been seen, if the originality is gone. Also, the song wasn’t as good. But Nasim Pedrad and Paul Brittain bring out some entertaining dance moves, so I’ll give it to ’em there.
Meanwhile, speaking of returns to form, the “Beastly” trailer annoyingly echoed the “Roommate” trailer, from Samberg’s nerd/spaz character to the “respected actor’s name-as-joke”.
On the other hand, I was more entertained by Apl.De.Ap & Taboo than I thought I’d be, though I’m sure when they return to that sketch and play it exactly the same way I’ll be less so. Let’s see them in a different scenario or something. Which reminds me, with all the repeat sketches, how have we not seen “Two A-Holes” in years?!
Next week Zach Galafianakis returns. I’d love to see his twin brother Seth take the stage at 30 Rock…
