09/24/2011: Alec Baldwin & Radiohead (Season 37 Premiere)

Stick Figure Night Live! is a series of stick figure comic “recreations” of episodes of Saturday Night Live. Just as the show itself is performed live, the comics are drawn “live” while watching the show (with the occasional assist from DVR or some digital clean-up post scanning).

Welcome back to a new season of Stick Figure Night Live!

I’ll admit it…after a summer without stick figures, I was a little rusty getting back into the swing of things…

The challenge of “show as much as I can” vs. “encapsulate everything into a single moment/image” continues. But I can say that the “All My Children Wrap Party” sketch came out of taking notes during the sketch and drawing it out during the commercial…which…I think kind of worked. If nothing else it might be the first appearance of a bird’s eye view in an SFNL comic.

Anyway, despite knowing it was going to be this way, it was weird to see no change in the cast…it’s a big group, which might explain how many sketches had so many people in them, be them impression parades or the aforementioned “All My Children” sketch (though, in that case, I wonder if Jay Pharoah just stands by scratching his head, baffled – was he the only cast member NOT in that sketch?).

On the other hand, I for one was kind of impressed/taken by there not being a repeat/popular sketch or character from past seasons in the top half of the show (not counting the mention of Schwety Balls).

And Thom Yorke’s dance moves, while entertaining, have nothing on Fiona Apple’s appearance on SNL a bunch of years back…why they didn’t just lock the camera on her the whole performance I do not know

Welcome back, readers! Thanks for coming back. And if you’re new: welcome aboard!
